Girl, listen. Did you know that my very first Instagram picture that I posted was a picture I took off of Tumblr? It was this flatlay of a magazine with a pink iPhone on it (something I was dying to have at the time…). And then my next picture was a quote I had found off of We Heart It. The very first “real” picture that I posted (& have since deleted) was of me using the Google Cardboard. Yeah, you could say my Instagram feed was off to a not-so-great start. But hey! You have to start somewhere right?
The above was 3 years ago. Three years ago I looked at other people’s Instagram with complete jealousy. How could their feeds look so perfect? And where did they get all the money from to buy these awesome clothes, yummy food and accessories?
I never understood how their pictures came out so perfect. Like, how come their skies are always blue? And they are always completely in the photos? Do they have a photographer on them every day? In the beginning, I felt like I didn’t have the skills to make content that looked like that. I honest to God thought that I had to learn photography before I was allowed to take any photos for Instagram.
Let me save you 3 years of your time…
Just take a second to scroll through your feed. How does it make you feel? Don’t you ask yourself the same questions that I asked myself? Seriously, how! Tell me your influencer secretsss. I want my outfit, hair and make up to look flawless, too!
Now, three years later, I know that influencers do have a photographer with them 24/7. I also know that influencers receive products for free to post on their Instagram. But I also know that I don’t have to be a professional photographer to create content for my channel.
Let me be honest with you. I don’t really like the term influencer and I don’t aspire to be one. I am a digital content creator and enthousiastic business owner who wants to be creative and show off my journey online. However, I do want my picture to look as good as they can. And after years of using VSCO cam and Snapseed, it was time to step it up a notch: Adobe Lightroom.
Girl, invest in yourself!
If you’re not sure, let me tell you, it’s worth the investment. Especially, if you can use Lightroom and Photoshop for other business purposes besides Instagram (think: pimp you blog, for example). – And btw, I’m not sponsored to say this. I am just a really big fan of Adobe. – I taught myself all the basics just by watching YouTube tutorials. Every time I ran into a problem, I just Googled, YouTubed and Pinterested the sh*t out of my problem to get a solution. I now enjoy using Lightroom and understand the basic functions.
It has taken me three years to get to this point. It has taken me hours to learn the basics and find my own style. And I want to spare you those three years! I’ve put together a guide with how I edit my Instagram pictures step-by-step.
I’m giving you my secrets!
As in, I give you all of my Lightroom settings.
I also give you some practical tips for taking photos
And I list my favorite Lightroom Presets that you can buy if you realllly want to save some time.
